О полезных свойствах лекарственных растений и трав известно ещё с древних времён. Все древние цивилизации использовали травы в лечении ряда заболеваний. Так, в Китае, Месопотамии и Индии использование трав было широко распространено, а в Древней Греции многие писали о травах и их свойствах, среди них - Аристотель, Феофраст и Диоскорид.
